Almost 500 Christmas Stockings Filled

January 14, 2015 by Tucker Young

Bryan Broadcasting celebrated the season of giving with the annual Christmas Angels program. For over twenty years, our station has participated to bring Christmas to the children of families less fortunate.

angel 10We collaborated with the Department of Health and Human Services for months to get the list of 477 children from the Brazos Valley that wouldn’t have anything under their Christmas Tree without help from radio listeners.

“Bryan Broadcasting was responsible for covering Christmas trees at two Blue Baker locations, and thanks to our radio stations help, each and every name was picked off of the two trees,” said Ashlea Gutierrez, Assistant Coordinator of Christmas Angels.

Numerous volunteers showed their support by coming to the studio to help organize the multitude of gifts that arrived daily. Countless staff members also stayed to the late hours of the night to help label, wrap, and document each gift to ensure that every child had a fair amount of presents to unwrap.

One empty office in the Crystal Park Plaza was stocked full of boxes, bags, wrapping paper, tools, and helping hands, while another empty office was completely filled with bicycles for these angels.

angel 7The gifts were given out across the span of one weekend. The staff gave their weekend to help load numerous bicycles and basketball goals into the cars that would carry the gifts to a deserving child.

“While we get the privilege of helping out with this, it’s really the listeners event,” said Candy 95’s Frito, “Without people adopting angels and shopping for them or businesses donating money for us to shop for them nothing happens. It’s another example of the incredible generosity of people in Aggieland.”

Candy 95 & Maverick 102.7 Partner with Chilifest

January 14, 2015 by wpengine

Chilifest-800x600

Bryan Broadcasting is proud to announce that Maverick 102.7 and Candy 95 will be the radio partners for Chilifest 2015. Maverick 102.7 is the newest radio station in Bryan/College Station, debuting this past August.

“I could not be more thrilled for Maverick to be a part of Chilifest in our first year,” Adam Drake, Maverick Program Director said. “I love Chilifest and what it stands for. Yes it’s a big party with two days of music, but it’s so much more than that.”

“In late 2013 we started doing a Battle of the Bands contest at our weekly event at Ozona,” says Tucker Young, Program Director for Candy 95. “We wanted to be there for the Chilifest board and help them in whatever way we could. After an amazing festival in 2014, we’ve come up with some things that will make this year really special. Teaming with Maverick is going to make for an incredible couple of days this April!”

Drake and Young add both stations will be teaming up to give listeners incredible access at Chilifest. Some of the plans include free tickets, a chance to meet with the artists, or even be on a Chili Team with Maverick and Candy personalities. “That’s just a few of the promotions we have planned. It’s going to be a busy couple of months leading up to Chilifest,” said Drake.

“Chilifest made the move to a local station that is committed to bettering our community. We are proud to partner with folks who take their jobs as seriously as we do and who have a passion for connecting people through good music,” stated Chilifest Chairman Tyler Luxion,.

For over 23 years, Chilifest Inc. has been able to give sizable contributions to many local organizations and charities, which have totaled over two million dollars since its inception.

This year’s Chilifest will be held April 10th and 11th at the Starlight Ballroom in Snook, Texas. For more information, go online to Chilifest.org.

Bryan Broadcasting On Demand

January 13, 2015 by Tucker Young

OnDemand-800x600Now that you can watch TV on your schedule with your DVR, and watch movies on your schedule with Netflix and other services, why should you listen to your favorite radio programs any differently? Bryan Broadcasting has spent the past few years pioneering the ability to Podcast many of our local programs on WTAW and The Zone and with 2015 will be offering many more of their shows “On Demand” from wherever you are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“We’ve had a giant response from listeners who have used our websites to listen to shows like The Infomaniacs, The Louie Belina Show, and others via podcast,” says Operations Director Tucker Young, “Listeners have appreciated the opportunity to enjoy our programming on their schedule.”

Starting in February, Bryan Broadcasting will offer Morning Candy with Frito and Katy in Podcast form through Candy95.com. “Listeners will be able to visit the Morning Candy section of the website and hear the entire show every weekday,” Young says. “And fitting with the ‘More Talk-Less Music’ philosophy of the show the podcasts will be music free!”

Also making their entry into the podcast world are the Maverick 102.7 personalities. Segments from shows like “The Morning Mavericks” and “Drew Williams” will be available daily on MaverickRadio.com, as well as artist interviews and performances from the Maverick Studios.

“The best part of this is a listener never has to miss out on a show,” Young adds, “If they were in a meeting, class, or just slept in later than usual they can catch up on everything that happened on their favorite station.”

Podcasts are available daily on WTAW.com, Zone1150.com, Candy95.com, MaverickRadio.com.

Ben Downs to Address North American Conference

January 6, 2015 by wpengine

In February, General Manager Ben Downs will travel to Toronto, Ontario to address an international group of broadcasters about AM radio. Downs is nationally recognized as a subject matter expert on AM radio and its position in the marketplace.

“Over the past six years, I’ve worked closely with the FCC in Washington to identify the problems and solutions facing AM operators,” Downs said. “The noise level of our modern digital life has made the AM frequencies hostile territory for broadcasting. Every iPhone, CFL bulb, and phone charger emits noise and interference right in the middle of the AM broadcast frequencies.”

The conference is attended by broadcasters and regulators from Canada, Mexico and the US.  Downs will appear on the program with FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai.
